Former Awami League MP from the Chuadanga-1 constituency, parliament whip, and valiant freedom fighter, Solaiman Haque Joarder, has passed away at the age of 79.
He breathed his last at a private hospital in the capital at 7:15pm on Friday.
He is survived by his wife and a daughter.
Also known as Selun Joarder, he was the president of the Chuadanga District Awami League.
The four-time MP had been suffering from various physical complications for the past few days. He was admitted to a private hospital for treatment.

He was elected as a member of parliament in the ninth national elections of 2008 and then in 2014, 2018, and 2024.
In 2024, he was nominated as the ruling partyโs whip in parliament.
After the August 5 changeover, the residence of Selun Joarder and his wife, Aktari Joarder, was looted and burned down by the terrorist and jihadist mob, who are patronised by the illegal interim government.
Since last year, the couple has been harassed by the interim government in the name of anti-corruption investigations.
After a court issued a travel ban against them while another court ordered the freezing of the bank accounts associated with their family members, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against the couple.
