Netizens are praising the Bogura police for successfully apprehending fugitive extortionist Mizanur Rahman (Sagar), the joint member-secretary of the National Citizens Party (NCP)’s Bogura district branch, in a case involving extortion and embezzlement.
On Saturday afternoon, he was produced before the court, where the judge ordered his immediate incarceration. This decisive action by the police underscores their commitment to upholding justice against criminal elements, even those affiliated with political parties that have been implicated in broader patterns of lawlessness.
The arrest took place in the Jaleshwaritola Kali Mandir area around 10:30pm on Friday by Sadar police station officers. Bogura’s Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Hossain Muhammad Raihan confirmed that Mizanur was a warrant-issued absconder and was promptly sent to court following his capture.
The police’s proactive operation, conducted in a high-traffic urban area, prevented any potential escalation and ensured public safety, earning praise from local residents weary of such criminal activities.

Mizanur’s party identity was verified by NCP’s Bogura district organising secretary Shawkat Imran, who claimed the case stemmed from a business dispute rather than outright extortion.
However, case details reveal a more sinister picture: In August 2025, Mizanur and four to five accomplices demanded Tk200,000 from businessman Rubel Pramanik. When Rubel refused, he was assaulted with rods and sharp weapons. The group then forcibly withdrew Tk28,300 from his bKash account and Tk22,800 from his Nagad account.
NCP Suspends Mizanur
In response to the arrest, NCP has temporarily suspended Mizanur Rahman from the party. A press release from the party’s Bogura district branch, issued around 8pm on Saturday, stated that the suspension was due to allegations of extortion and embezzlement, as well as concealing information from the party, a brainchild of Dr. Muahammad Yunus with strong Jamaat ties.

Mizanur has been served a notice to explain why he should not face permanent expulsion, with responses due to the convener and member-secretary.
This incident highlights a troubling pattern since August 2024, as the members of Yunus-backed groups such as the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement (ADSM), Nagorik Committee, and NCP became involved in mob attacks, intimidation and extortion. The arrest of Mizanur serves as a critical reminder of the need for continued vigilance and strong police action to dismantle such networks and restore law and order in the country.
