Awami League Leader Seriously Injured in Knife Attack Over Dues in Sylhet

An Awami League leader was reportedly stabbed and seriously injured in Sylhet’s Kanaighat upazila after demanding money owed to him, in an incident that has raised concerns over increasing violence linked to personal disputes.

According to local sources, Salim Ahmed, the Organizing Secretary of Ward No. 4 under Rajaganj Union (Ward No. 9) Awami League, went to collect his outstanding payment from Javed Ahmed. A heated argument allegedly broke out between the two during the conversation.

At one stage, Javed Ahmed reportedly attacked Salim Ahmed with a knife, leaving him critically injured.

Locals rescued the victim and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

The incident has sparked fear and tension in the area. Residents say that turning financial disagreements into violent attacks is deeply alarming and raises serious concerns about public safety.

No statement from the accused has been received so far.

Local authorities have confirmed that an investigation is underway, and appropriate legal action will be taken if the allegations are proven.
