In a tragic incident in Motlob North, Chandpur, a father was brutally beaten to death after protesting the harassment of his daughter. The deceased, Md. Zakir Hossain Miazi (45), passed away on Sunday (March 8) at 5:00 a.m. at Dhaka Medical College Hospital after receiving treatment for 13 days. He is survived by five children, including two sons and three daughters.
According to local sources, Zakir’s second daughter, Sakiba Akter (15), is a ninth-grade student at Nishchintpur High School. On her daily way to and from school, she was frequently harassed by several young men. The accused include Faim Miazi (24), son of Nasir Hossain Miazi of Nishchintpur village; Md. Safin (23), son of Ainul Kabir Fatik; Rifat Bepari, son of Mizan Bepari from Nowdona village; Riyad Shikdar, son of Mohsin Shikdar, along with 10–15 others.
After Zakir lodged a complaint with the school principal, the assailants reportedly attacked him on February 23 in Nishchintpur Bazar, inflicting serious head injuries. Local residents rushed him first to the Motlob North Upazila Health Complex. Due to deteriorating condition, he was transferred to Comilla Medical College Hospital and later to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Following his death, Zakir’s younger brother, Hossain Miazi, filed a murder case in Chandpur court.
Speaking about the incident, Zakir’s daughter Sakiba said, “Several boys used to harass me on my way to school. When I informed my father, he filed a complaint at the school. That is why they attacked him.”
His elder daughter, Zakia Sultana, said, “They brutally beat and killed my father. We demand justice for this heinous act.”
The widow, Parvin Akter, stated, “My husband was a simple farmer. He was mercilessly beaten for protesting the harassment of our daughter. I have small children to take care of now. I demand proper justice for my husband’s murder.”
Motlob North Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Md. Kamrul Hasan, confirmed, “Zakir Hossain Miazi was admitted to the hospital in critical condition and later died while undergoing treatment. A new murder case is being prepared, and police operations will be conducted to arrest the culprits.”
