Yunus Declared ‘VIP’ for One Year Two Days Before Election.

Two days before the 13th parliamentary election, on 10 February, a government gazette declared Muhammad Yunus as a ‘Very Very Important Person’ (VVIP) for one year, starting from the date he assumed office as Chief Adviser of the interim government. This status grants him security protection from the Special Security Force (SSF) for one year.

The gazette was issued by Md. Saifullah Panna, then Secretary of the Chief Adviser’s Office. According to the law, besides foreign heads of state or government, other government-designated important individuals can also be granted VVIP status through a gazette notification.

Questions were raised as the gazette was not published on the Bangladesh Government Press website. However, Mohammad Abu Yusuf, Deputy Director of the Government Press, stated that the gazette was issued following proper procedures, and the decision not to post it online was made by the concerned office.

Under the VVIP status, Yunus receives SSF security at his residence, office, and during official events. Security arrangements are also ensured during his domestic and international travels.

Yunus took office as Chief Adviser of the interim government on 8 August 2024 and, after serving for nearly 18 months, left the State Guest House Jamuna on 28 February 2026.
