Five years ago, police’s ASI Shamim Hasan Razzo of the Kotalipara police station in Gopalganj was arrested for brutally torturing a farmer at Ramshil Bazar, causing his death.
He, however, was relieved after promising to pay the family Tk5 lakh and offering jobs for the wife and the brother of the deceased.
The then OC of the police station, Sheikh Lutfar Rahman, and local representatives participated in the mediation.
After a long gap, Shamim was spotted sitting on a chair in the audience, wearing a sleeveless t-shirt and sunglasses and in an aggressive mood, at the rally venue of the Kingโs party, the National Citizen Party (NCP), last Wednesday.
Video captures and photos further show that Shamim was talking to the Kotalipara police chief, Abul Kalam Azad, asking him to adopt brutal means.
Later, OC Azad was seen torturing and shooting a youth, named Ramzan Kazi, to death.

At that time, Home Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and LGRD Adviser Asif Mahmud gave instructions to the army and the police while monitoring the situation on CCTV at the Police Headquarters.
Moreover, activists of the banned Hizb ut-Tahrir and Jamaat-Shibir reached the town ahead of the rally to carry out violent attacks.
The Awami League has questioned why Shamim, a trained militant hailing from Faridpur, was present at the scene and coordinating with the army and the police.
The party said it was a well-planned anarchy orchestrated to establish a reign of terror and demolish the mausoleum of Bangabandhu.
