Panic and concern have spread among residents following an attack on a Hindu family in Sharankhola upazila of Bagerhat. According to local sources, a group of armed individuals allegedly attacked the family over a long-standing land dispute, damaging their home and injuring members of the household.
The victim, Robin Dhali’s family, claimed that attackers entered their residence carrying machetes, hammers, iron rods, and sticks. They alleged that several household items were destroyed during the incident and that family members were threatened and assaulted. The family further stated that they have been facing pressure and disputes over land ownership for an extended period.
Following the incident, tension has risen in the area. Members of the minority community expressed fear and insecurity, saying they no longer feel safe in their locality. Many residents have raised concerns that if swift action is not taken, the situation could escalate further.
Police Superintendent Hasan Mohammad Nasir visited the scene after the incident. Law enforcement officials confirmed that a case has been filed and two individuals have already been arrested in connection with the attack. Authorities also reported the recovery of locally made weapons during the operation. However, locals question whether justice will be fully served if the main organizers remain unidentified or unpunished.
Human rights observers note that incidents involving attacks on minority communities, often linked to land disputes or local conflicts, are not uncommon. They emphasize the importance of prompt and impartial investigations to prevent a culture of impunity.
