A hand bomb explosion occurred at a temple in Cumilla city, leaving at least three people injured, including the temple’s priest. While fleeing the scene, the attackers also hurled two more hand bombs in front of a nearby mosque.
The incident took place on Saturday evening in the Kaligachtala Temple area of Thakurpara in the city, confirmed Cumilla District Police Superintendent Anisuzzaman.
The injured have been identified as Keshab Chakraborty, the priest of Kaligachtala Temple, and Abdul Barek, who had gone to offer prayers at the nearby Baganbari Mosque. The identity of the third injured person could not be confirmed immediately.
According to local sources, miscreants threw a hand bomb at the temple area in the evening, causing an explosion and spreading panic among residents. While fleeing the scene, the attackers reportedly threw two more hand bombs in front of the nearby Baganbari Mosque.
Three people were injured in the explosions. Locals rescued them and took them to Cumilla Sadar Hospital, where they received primary treatment.
Police visited the scene shortly after the incident and said operations are underway to identify and arrest those involved in the attack.
