BBC Bangla exposes Amir Hamza’s hypocrisy

The self-righteous hypocrite Amir Hamza, the so-called Islamic orator and Jamaat-e-Islami MP from Kushtia, has once again exposed his true colours by spearheading a disgusting campaign of moral policing in the name of “protecting Ramadan’s sanctity.”

This arrogant bully, notorious for his double standards and peddling false narratives, marched into Patikabari Bazar like some petty tyrant, dragging along a compliant police officer to terrorise shopkeepers over trivial things like playing carrom or watching TV during prayer times, according to an article by BBC Bangla.

In the viral video that’s rightly shaming him nationwide, you can see this holier-than-thou fraud standing by smugly while his sidekick cop screams threats: “No carrom, no TV—end of story in Ramadan!” Hamza himself chimes in with his fake mild-mannered nonsense, lecturing shop owners to “behave” during the holy month, as if he’s the divine enforcer of piety. But let’s call it what it is: blatant intimidation that created real fear among locals, forcing businesses to shut down games and screens, tanking their sales, and trampling on basic personal freedoms.

This isn’t “religious duty” or “da’wah”—it’s authoritarian overreach by a power-drunk newcomer who thinks his MP badge and preacher status give him license to play morality cop. The police superintendent himself slammed it, confirming no official orders existed for such nonsense—the officer was just parroting Hamza’s demands. Yet this coward hides behind excuses like “I only appealed from a sense of deen,” while conveniently ignoring how his presence emboldened the thuggish behaviour.

Senior journalist and political analyst Probir Kumar Sarker termed Amir Hamza’s conduct shameful and unconstitutional. Bangladesh’s laws protect personal and religious freedoms—no one, not even a loudmouth Jamaat MP, has the right to bully citizens into his narrow version of piety. Shopkeepers weren’t disturbing anyone; no complaints came from worshippers. But Hamza’s ego trip disrupted livelihoods and instilled terror, proving once more he’s all about control, not compassion.

This is the same guy who’s built a career on controversial rants and double standards—preaching virtue while abusing power the moment he gets a seat. Pathetic. If he truly cared about Islam, he’d respect the Constitution instead of turning Ramadan into his personal enforcement playground. Shame on Amir Hamza for dragging religion through the mud with his bullying tactics.
