NSA Khalil makes his wife EWU trustee to plunder funds

National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman, alias Roger Rahman, a close aide of the Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, who captured power through a meticulously designed conspiracy last year, has followed the suit of his patron by making his wife a trustee of the East West University (EWU).

Now, allegations of corruption are surfacing against Khalilโ€™s wife, Nurunnahar Rahman.

Private universities in Bangladesh are legally registered as “non-profit” or “service” institutions. However, the EWU is one of the most expensive universities in Bangladesh.

Although it is non-profit, the university’s board of trustees embezzled the money received from students through corruption. As a trustee, Khalilur Rahman was the main mastermind behind the embezzlement.

It is alleged that during the July 2024 movement, some deviant students of the EWU, who were funded by Khalilur Rahman, were at the forefront of the police killings.

In November, former diplomat Khalilur Rahman was appointed as the High Representative on the Rohingya Problem and Priority Issues Affairs of the chief adviser. Later, he was made the NSA.

He is a key figure in the plan to sell Bangladesh’s sovereignty in the name of the corridor.

In addition, Khalilur Rahman’s past is also questionable. August 2001. A tragic incident occurred in the capital’s Nilkhet. Ayesha Afsari, the protocol officer of the chief adviser, was shot dead by her husband, Zahirul Islam.

Zahirul later committed suicide. Although the incident was initially presented as a family dispute, the investigation revealed a terrifying truthโ€”Ayesha was the victim of rape. The rapist was none other than Khalilur Rahman, the brother-in-law of then Chief Adviser Latifur Rahman and PS-1 of his office.

Posting to New York through seduction, sexual abuse there, the husband’s mental breakdown, and ultimately the tragic consequences of a pair of lives, this terrifying story was buried under state patronage.

According to a report by the Indian media Northeast News, Khalilur Rahman fled the country and took refuge in the United States. He changed his identity to Roger Rahman.

He stayed in various places under pseudonyms, including New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Maryland. In 2014, he applied for political asylum in the United States, claiming to be a BNP worker and fearing death. However, the real truth was to ensure a safe shelter by hiding his crime.

The question arises: how does a person accused of rape, who was in hiding for two decades and took political refuge under a pseudonym, get back in charge of state security?

A bigger question: Is there a shadow of any personal relationship or international agreement with the interim head of government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, in this appointment?

Dr Yunus’ past is also questionable: many suicides due to high interest rates of the Grameen Bank, handing over policy-making power to foreign companies. And now he has become even more reckless with illegal power.

According to various media reports, Yunus has recently come under criticism for taking special benefits while in power. Several institutions of the Grameen Group he founded quickly received government approval and special benefits. He has managed licenses for a university, a manpower company, and a digital wallet, among other businesses.

Along with this, Grameen Bank was given a tax waiver for five years, and the government’s share in the bank was reduced from 25% to 10%.

The swift dismissal of the cases related to the labour law violation and money laundering against Yunus has raised questions about transparency.

Experts say that such benefits for one’s own organisation and dismissal of the case create a conflict of interest and increase the risk of losing public trust.

The fact that a swindler like Yunus and a rapist like Khalil have returned to dominating state security, immigration policy, and university policy is not only an example of moral decadence but also a subtle design for the destruction of a state from within.

If Khalil legally acquired citizenship of a second country, it should not be difficult to reveal it. But living in the United States for 26 years, hiding his identity on Facebook, and still officially remaining silent on the matterโ€”all this has taken the form of a concentrated mystery.

Analysts are questioning whether Roger and Khalil are truly the same person, and if so, whether this secrecy aligns with the expectations of a responsible individual within the state’s transparency and security framework.
