Police detained 42 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League, banned Chhatra League, and Jubo League during attempted surprise processions in Dhaka\u2019s Dhanmondi and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar areas, as well as in Barishal. The operations were conducted on Friday morning and after Jumma prayers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to police sources, law enforcement agencies were on alert after receiving information that activists were planning sudden processions in different parts of the capital. Extra police personnel were deployed around Dhanmondi 32, Takwa Mosque, and Sobhanbag Mosque areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additional Deputy Commissioner of DMP\u2019s Dhanmondi Division, Jisanul Haque, said the activists were gathering in several locations in Dhanmondi to bring out processions. Police immediately launched operations to prevent the activities and detained 26 people, including Md. Murad, president of the Bhanga Thana Jubo League in Faridpur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Separate drives were also carried out in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and different areas of Barishal, where 16 more people were detained, according to related sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police said legal action is being taken against the detainees. Law enforcement agencies also warned that any attempt to create unrest or carry out activities in the name of banned organizations would not be tolerated.
