Expatriate Bangladeshis living in different parts of the world have strongly condemned and protested the ban imposed on the activities of the Bangladesh Awami League.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a joint statement issued today, they said, \u201cBangladesh is our motherland, and we are proud to be Bangladeshi. We are deeply concerned to see that our beloved country is going through a serious crisis.\u201d They claimed that the national election held on February 12 was \u043d\u0435\u0437\u0430\u043a\u043e\u043d and that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) formed the government through that election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement further alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami has taken seats as the opposition in the National Parliament, and that the BNP-Jamaat alliance passed a law banning the activities of the Awami League. They described this move as against democracy and political rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The expatriates also stated that the Awami League led Bangladesh\u2019s autonomy movement, independence struggle, and the Liberation War. They claimed that a large portion of the population still supports the party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They demanded the immediate withdrawal of the ban, warning that the consequences would not be good if their demand is not met.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement was signed on behalf of 1,001 expatriate Bangladeshis from different countries, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
