{"id":6126,"date":"2026-02-06T22:12:38","date_gmt":"2026-02-06T16:12:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyrepublicbd.com\/?p=6126"},"modified":"2026-02-06T22:12:40","modified_gmt":"2026-02-06T16:12:40","slug":"sheikh-hasina-let-the-voters-decide-awami-leagues-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyrepublicbd.com\/?p=6126","title":{"rendered":"Sheikh Hasina: Let the voters decide Awami League\u2019s future"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Awami League President and five-time Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has strongly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=pBseJBYlFfU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">condemned <\/a>the upcoming national election and referendum process, describing it as fundamentally unfair and unconstitutional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In her latest public remarks, she demanded that Dr. Muhammad Yunus immediately resign from his position as chief adviser of the interim government and called for the formation of a neutral caretaker administration to conduct genuinely free and fair polls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking to supporters virtually, Sheikh Hasina asserted that neither the Awami League, freedom fighters, nor any party in the 14-party alliance would be able to participate in the announced election. Contest an election in any constituency with any worker of my Awami League\u2014let us see whom the people truly want.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyrepublicbd.com\/?p=6114\">Sheikh Hasina slams Yunus regime over cricket setback for youth<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyrepublicbd.com\/?p=6117\">Yunus-Jamaat fascist regime turns judiciary into a slaughterhouse<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She accused Yunus of lacking the courage to face such a contest, branding him \u201cthe biggest fraudster in Bangladesh\u201d who illegally seized power and is now attempting to legitimise it through manipulated elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sheikh Hasina rejected the accusations levelled against her and the party, particularly the claim that she was responsible for the deaths of 1,400 people. \u201cI have never killed anyone,\u201d she said. \u201cI worked to establish people\u2019s rights and for their socio-economic development.\u201d She challenged those making the allegations to produce any credible evidence or accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She described the current situation as one of complete destruction of the peaceful system her government had built. \u201cIn this ruined state, they are holding elections. Why can\u2019t the Awami League participate?\u201d she questioned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While acknowledging the death sentence reportedly issued against her personally, she emphasised that the real issue was the blanket exclusion of the Awami League as an organisation. \u201cIf the people do not vote for us, fine \u2014 we will accept it,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut why are they not allowing us to contest at all? What right does Dr. Yunus have to bar us from the election and ban the Awami League?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyrepublicbd.com\/?p=6121\">Bangladesh\u2019s 1,675 eminent citizens demand halt to election, referendum<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyrepublicbd.com\/?p=6094\">135 Bangladeshi journalists demand halt to one-sided election process<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Highlighting the historic role of the party, she reminded the audience: \u201cThis Awami League brought independence to Bangladesh, secured the right to speak in Bengali, established International Mother Language Day\u2014everything was done under the leadership of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exiled prime minister sharply criticised the conduct of the planned referendum, particularly the \u201cYes\u201d vote campaign. She pointed out that ballot papers were being prepared with \u201cYes\u201d stamps already distributed, government employees, armed forces, police, RAB, BGB, Ansar, and media were all being mobilised to push for a \u201cYes\u201d outcome, and dissenters faced harassment, violence, and arson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIs this an election?
