Burning the media is an attempt to destroy truth and democratic accountability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cSimilarly, attacks on Chhayanaut and Udichi\u2014icons of Bengali secularism and progressive culture\u2014prove that this violence is not merely political but part of a deliberate project of cultural annihilation. Extremist forces fear music, poetry, culture and free thought because they empower people to question authoritarianism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe most chilling crime occurred in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, where Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das was tied to a tree, beaten to death under a false \u201cblasphemy\u201d allegation, and his body burned.
