They are the direct outcome of a meticulously engineered campaign of riots and mayhem during July–August 2024 that overthrew a constitutionally mandated, democratically elected government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the Bangladesh Awami League. What followed was the systematic replacement of constitutional governance with mob rule—organised violence, fear, and impunity.”

Strategic challenge worries India, but won’t extradite Sheikh Hasina

Yunus’ Mobocracy: Extremists exploit Hadi’s death to stir anti-India sentiment

Jamaat’s hollow distancing from Shibir threats against media, cultural institutions

Ex-BCL Leader Dies in Custody

Wasiqur Rahman Babu, former president of Badda Thana Chhatra League and youth and sports secretary of the same unit’s Awami League, died in prison custody on Sunday.

People held Babu during a procession in Dhaka’s Panthapath area on September 24. They beat him up before handing him over to the Kalabagan police. Even though he was seriously injured, the authorities did not ensure his treatment.

On September 27, Babu was taken to Kashimpur Prison-2. After his remand was granted in a case, a police team went to take him into custody for questioning on Sunday afternoon.

Jail officials claimed that Babu fell unconscious at the prison gate while being handed over to the police at around 4:15pm. The country is being deliberately pushed toward managed chaos, state failure, and authoritarian rule sustained by fear.

“Arson attacks on the offices of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star represent a direct fascist assault on press freedom. Particularly grave was the attempt to burn The Daily Star building while staff members were trapped inside—an act amounting to attempted murder. The harassment of New Age editor Nurul Kabir further confirms that journalists and independent voices are being systematically targeted. Burning the media is an attempt to destroy truth and democratic accountability.

“Similarly, attacks on Chhayanaut and Udichi—icons of Bengali secularism and progressive culture—prove that this violence is not merely political but part of a deliberate project of cultural annihilation. Extremist forces fear music, poetry, culture and free thought because they empower people to question authoritarianism.

“The most chilling crime occurred in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, where Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das was tied to a tree, beaten to death under a false “blasphemy” allegation, and his body burned.
