{"id":5174,"date":"2025-12-11T02:32:43","date_gmt":"2025-12-10T20:32:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyrepublicbd.com\/?p=5174"},"modified":"2025-12-11T02:32:44","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T20:32:44","slug":"students-burn-effigies-of-pinaki-elias-for-anti-liberation-propaganda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyrepublicbd.com\/?p=5174","title":{"rendered":"Students burn effigies of Pinaki, Elias for anti-liberation propaganda"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Hundreds of Dhaka University students on Wednesday night burned the effigies of two anarchist YouTubers\u2014US-based <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/eyeeliashossain\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elias Hossain<\/a> and France-based <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/PinakiRightsActivist\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Pinaki Bhattacharya<\/a>\u2014who have been spreading propaganda against Bangladesh\u2019s 1971 Liberation War and openly promoting anti-independence narratives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The protest began at the foot of the historic Raju Sculpture around 9:15pm as students set fire to the straw effigies while raising fiery slogans, including \u201cPakistani seeds have no place in this Bengal\u201d and \u201cListen carefully, Razakars\u2014this Bengal belongs to my father and grandfather.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Protest organiser Arafat Chowdhury told reporters: \u201cIn this sacred month of victory, we cannot silently watch the relentless insults, misinformation, and malicious propaganda against our Liberation War and sovereignty. As conscious students of Dhaka University, it is our moral duty to register this protest.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both Elias Hossain and Pinaki Bhattacharya rose to prominence as fierce critics of the deposed Awami League government and are widely accused of receiving financial and ideological backing from Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyrepublicbd.com\/?p=3261\">Anarchist YouTuber Elias Hossain using US soil to promote al-Qaeda jihadist<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyrepublicbd.com\/?p=3808\">Rahmani, other jihadist patrons want all \u2018Islamic scholars\u2019 freed from jail<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyrepublicbd.com\/?p=3174\">What did Nurul Haque Nur say about Jatiya Party, anarchist YouTubers, advisers?<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the violent ouster of the Sheikh Hasina government in August 2024, the duo has repeatedly used their large social media followings to incite and coordinate mob attacks on Awami League leaders, minority neighbourhoods, and public institutions\u2014actions that have faced no legal consequences under the current Muhammad Yunus-led interim government, which many say openly patronises them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pinaki Bhattacharya\u2019s political journey has been particularly controversial. Once an active supporter of the 2013 Shahbagh movement\u2014the month-long non-violent youth uprising demanding capital punishment for 1971 war criminals\u2014Pinaki later publicly expressed regret for his involvement and began aggressively campaigning in favour of convicted Jamaat war criminals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After facing cases in Bangladesh for the death of children from fake paracetamol syrups, Pinaki fled to India in 2018\u201319, later travelled to Thailand using an Indian passport, and eventually reached France, where he is currently living as a political asylum seeker.
