Several thousand leaders, activists and supporters of the Awami League and campaigners of the 1971 war crimes trials gathered at the historic Trafalgar Square in London on Monday to attend the \u201cRally for Bangladesh<\/a>\u201d event with a vow to bring back five-time Prime Minister and Bangabandhu\u2019s daughter, Sheikh Hasina, to power.<\/p>\n\n\n

They chanted slogans like \u201cJoy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu\u201d, \u201cSheikh Hasina Ashbe, Bangladesh Hashbe\u201d, “Once Again Sheikh Hasina”, and \u201cStep Down Yunus\u201d to transmit a message from the diaspora to those being persecuted in Bangladesh: You are not alone.<\/p>\n\n\n

The choice of venue was symbolic. On August 8, 1971, Trafalgar Square hosted landmark gatherings of Bengalis seeking to raise international awareness for the Liberation War. The event was titled \u201cRecognise Bangladesh Rally.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
