Former secretary and BNP Chairperson\u2019s private secretary, ABM Abdus Sattar<\/a>, has claimed to have evidence of massive corruption among eight advisers to the interim government.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

The retired secretary asserted that the government neither makes nor transfers appointments to important posts without communicating with these advisers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abdus Sattar alleged this during a seminar at the capital’s Biam Auditorium on Friday. However, he did not name the advisers.<\/p>\n\n\n

He is the general secretary of the Officers’ Club and the president of the Anti-Discrimination Employees Unity Forum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The seminar was conducted by the Bangladesh Administrative Service Association, an organisation of administration cadres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abdus Sattar said: \u201cI am very disappointed. The character of bureaucrats may have deteriorated. But I can provide evidence of massive corruption of at least eight advisers who sat in the chairs over the blood of the July Movement. The intelligence agencies have evidence of the corruption of eight advisers. However, the authorities are not taking any action against anyone.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At that time, other officials present applauded his remarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said: \u201cIt is a pity that even though Tk200 crore was found in the APS account of an adviser, no action was taken against him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abdus Sattar asked how former Grameen Bank official Nurjahan Begum could run the Health Ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIs it right to run two important ministries like the Ministry of Local Government and the Ministry of Youth and Sports with an inexperienced adviser [Asif Mahmud]?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said that corruption has not decreased in the past year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAn assistant commissioner (land) asked for Tk30 lakh to register a school’s land. A UNO from the outskirts of Dhaka asked for Tk20 lakh to approve the layout of a factory.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abdus Sattar said: \u201cI sit in the office of a political party. After August 5 last year, thousands of officials and employees have been flocking to that office.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman called him and said that it is not a good sign for in-service officials to come to the party office even if they were deprived during the Awami League rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have put up a notice at the office gate. No in-service official can come to the office. If there is any problem, they will come to the Officers’ Club,\u201d Abdus Sattar said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asked about Abdus Sattar’s statement, former secretary and rector of the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC), AKM Abdul Awal Majumder, told Prothom Alo that he is a responsible person. He is not a person who speaks without facts. He must have proof.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
