{"id":2652,"date":"2025-08-06T20:57:44","date_gmt":"2025-08-06T20:57:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyrepublicbd.com\/?p=2652"},"modified":"2025-08-07T15:51:47","modified_gmt":"2025-08-07T15:51:47","slug":"ex-du-students-condemn-photo-exhibition-on-condemned-war-criminals-at-tsc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyrepublicbd.com\/?p=2652","title":{"rendered":"Ex-DU students condemn photo exhibition on condemned war criminals at TSC"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The former students of Dhaka University have protested the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.prothomalo.com\/bangladesh\/city\/jyhutmuvwc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exhibition <\/a>of condemned war criminals\u2019 photos at the TSC, organised by the Dhaka University unit of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, as a brazen act by anti-liberation forces.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have observed with deep concern that, at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of the University of Dhaka, a programme titled \u201836 July: We Will Not Stop\u2019 was organized by the Dhaka University unit of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir\u2014the ideological and organizational successor to the war criminal-backed Islami Chhatra Sangha, a known anti-Liberation group,\u201d they said in a statement, signed by 73 former students, on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They also called upon every student of Dhaka University not to allow the legacy, glory, and sacrifices of their forebearers to be dishonoured. \u201cThe honour and heritage of this university, as the symbol of Bangladesh\u2019s very existence, rests in your hands. It is a heinous affront to the memory of our liberation struggle and a shameless act of defiance. Words fail us in expressing the depth of our condemnation. We strongly and unequivocally protest this reprehensible act.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statement said that it was under the leadership of Islami Chhatra Sangha\u2014the parent body of today\u2019s Chhatra Shibir\u2014that one of the most brutal massacres in the history of Dhaka University took place in 1971.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"860\" height=\"484\" src=\"https:\/\/dailyrepublicbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DU-shibir_exhibition.avif\" alt=\"war criminals\" class=\"wp-image-2657\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dailyrepublicbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DU-shibir_exhibition.avif 860w, https:\/\/dailyrepublicbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DU-shibir_exhibition-300x169.avif 300w, https:\/\/dailyrepublicbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DU-shibir_exhibition-768x432.avif 768w, https:\/\/dailyrepublicbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DU-shibir_exhibition-18x10.avif 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 860px) 100vw, 860px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>The photos were removed in the face of protests by students<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>On the night of March 25, aided by Chhatra Sangha, the Pakistani occupation forces stormed the university\u2019s residence halls and indiscriminately gunned down hundreds of innocent students and teachers. Teachers, students, officials, staff, and their families fell victim to this genocide. Over a thousand members of the university community were killed, with Chhatra Sangha being the primary local collaborator of the Pakistani army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among its leaders were Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid, chief organiser of the Al-Badr militia, and Abdul Quader Mollah, head of the Mirpur Al-Badr and notoriously known as the \u201cButcher of Mirpur.\u201d These men were tried and convicted of war crimes, yet their images were shamelessly displayed yesterday at the TSC by Chhatra Shibir, mocking the memory of thousands of martyrs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyrepublicbd.com\/?p=2128\">Sheikh Hasina vows to deport razakars to Karachi by ship<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyrepublicbd.com\/?p=495\">Pro-Yunus citizens\u2019 group condemns acquittal of razakar Azhar<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The University of Dhaka is rightfully hailed as the cradle of the Liberation War, a place where the seeds of our independence were sown. Every grain of dust on this campus bears witness to the blood of our struggle. To showcase the images of war criminals at its heart is a disgrace beyond measure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe reiterate that there are no words strong enough to condemn such a vile act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are compelled to assert that such a despicable act could not have taken place without the explicit support or silent consent of the current university administration. We protest in the strongest possible terms against his role in enabling such anti-liberation propaganda on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAt the same time, we extend our deepest gratitude and respect to the progressive students of the university who immediately confronted this act. Their swift and courageous response forced the removal of the war criminals\u2019 portraits. To these students, we offer our heartfelt salute.
